Organise a to-do list

There are a number of ways you can organise tasks in Slack: choose from postspinsstars or even dedicated #to-do channels. 

If you’re looking for a more robust task management tool, try one of the many third-party apps, such as Wunderlist, in Slack’s App Directory.


Host meetings

Whether they’re happening in person, over the phone or in a channel, Slack makes it possible to host effective meetings. Below are a few tips and tools to help your meetings flow seamlessly.


Host recurring meetings in Slack

If you attend a lot of meetings each week, try hosting some of the routine ones in a Slack channel. Daily or weekly standups, weekly project check-ins, or quick team meetings are all good options. To help you start your meetings, set a channel reminder for a specific day and time.

Record and save meeting notes

Posts work great for recording meeting notes and sharing a meeting agenda with teammates. You can even enable shared editing to let others collaborate with you.

Meet with remote teammates

With voice and video calls in Slack, you can communicate with teammates, no matter where they are in the world. Workspaces on paid plans can accommodate group calls (for 15 people total), and workspaces on any plan can make one-to-one calls.

Connect and share

Slack helps keep communication across your organisation transparent and inclusive. Below are some strategies to help everyone in your Slack workspace stay informed.

Communicate with teammates

No matter the size of your organisation, communication is the key to collaboration. Send and read messages in public channels to keep everyone informed and use @mentions to alert specific people. Use direct messages for ad-hoc conversations with a one or a few teammates.


Share info in public channels

Teamwork and communication happen in channels — open, organised spaces for messages, files, tools and people. By using public channels, you give other teammates a view into work happening across the company. Public channels are open for all members to join and shared content is searchable. They're also easy to spot by the  hashtag icon next to their names.

Take control over who can post in channels

Create spaces dedicated to announcements, reviewing support tickets, or showcasing your team's work. Read about who can can manage posting permissions.
 

Encourage employee engagement

Public “ask-me-anything” channels serve as an open line of communication between leadership teams and employees. They empower employees to ask questions and start discussions, as well as for leaders to give insight into decision making.

 

Centralise work in Slack

By bringing more of your work into Slack, you can spend less time juggling and jumping between tools. The fewer distractions you’re faced with throughout the day, the more you can focus on work that matters.

Manage emails

Sending emails to Slack makes sure that all of the information you need is in one central location. Choose from the Gmail add-on, the Microsoft Outlook add-on, the Email app, or a forwarding address.
 

Manage calendars

To help you stay on top of your schedule, you can connect your Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook Calendar to Slack. Get meeting and event reminders, respond to event notifications and even join a remote meeting right from your workspace.
