Remove someone from a channel

Workspace owners and admins can remove people from public channels and private ones they’ve joined. They can also allow other members to do so too. If you’re a member and you don’t see the option to remove someone, get in touch with a workspace owner or admin for help.

Note: You can’t revoke a channel invitation once it’s been sent, but you can remove someone from the channel if you change your mind.

Using a slash command

The fastest way to remove someone from a channel is to use the slash command and @mention the member/remove @[member].


From the channel details

  1. Next to the search field, click the  Show channel details icon at the top of the channel.
  2. In the Members list, click the person you want to remove.
  3. Select Remove from #channel.
  4. Click Yes, remove them to confirm. Slackbot will notify the member that they’ve been removed.

  3. Tap Send to finish.

Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace owners and admins can remove members from channels. Members can remove other members from private channels by default.
  • Available on free and paid subscriptions.
