Customise member profiles

Slack profiles make working together easier: members can share helpful details at a glance, like their time zone or job title.

With custom profiles, create new profile fields for any purpose to share even more details: location, start date, social media profiles and more. It’s fully customisable!


Add custom profile fields

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Customise Slack.
  3. On the Customise your team page, select the Profile tab.
  4. Click Edit your workspaces’ profile fields. This will open the Custom profile fields page.

  5. To add a new field, click Create a custom field.
  6. Choose which type of field to create.

  7. Customise your field to include a Label and a Hint, and any further options for the field type.
  8. Once you’ve finished, click Create.


Custom fields

Here’s an overview of the types of field you can add to your workspace’s profiles:

  • Text will create an open text field for members to complete.
  • List of options will show a drop-down menu of the options you include.
  • Link gives members the option to add a URL, such as for a social media profile.
  • Date can be used to show things such as start dates and birthdays.
  • Person provides a list of members, including Slackbot.

Once created, custom fields are instantly available to your workspace, but they don’t appear in profiles until members fill them out.

Rearrange or remove profile fields

On the Custom profile fields page, you can easily edit or change the order of your workspace’s profile options. 

  • Click   to hide or delete a custom field.
  • Click   and drag a field to change the order in which it appears.
