Change a member's full and display names

Name changes are sometimes needed for a variety of personal and professional reasons. If you're the Owner of a workspace or organization, you can change a member's full or display name.

  • Find the member you'd like to update, and click their full name.
  • Click Edit Profile.
  • Enter the new full name and/or display name and click Save Changes.

Keep in mind: You will not be able to make changes to a member's account with the same or a higher permission role than you.

When single sign-on (SSO) is enabled

If your workspace uses single sign-on, make sure your settings allow members to change their display names. If this is disabled, you won't be able to update display names for any members.

Updating this setting enables you to change a member's names using the instructions above. Visit Guide to single sign-on with Slack to learn how.

Tip: Workspaces with SAML-based SSO can update members' names from within the identity provider. It will be updated the next time the member signs into Slack.
