Who can send invitations?

Your ability to invite others to your workspace depends on both your role and your workspace settings.

  • Workspace Owners and Admins can invite both members and guests.
  • Members can invite other members if an Owner or Admin enables this option.
  • Guests cannot invite members or other guests.

Note: Guests can only be added to workspaces on paid plans.

Invite guests

On Standard and Plus plans, Workspace Owners and Admins can invite Multi-Channel or Single-Channel Guests:

  1. Click your workspace name, then select Invite people and choose Multi-Channel Guests or Single-Channel Guests.
  2. Enter your guests' email addresses.
  3. Under Invite to, choose the channel(s) they'll have access to.
  4. Set a time limit for how long they can access the channel(s) they'll be invited to.
  5. Click Invite Guests.
  1. Sign in to your workspace.
  2. Tap any channel name, then tap the  three dots icon.
  3. Tap Invite People.
  4. Enter email addresses, or tap Contacts to select people saved to your device.
  5. Tap Send.

Note: It's not currently possible to invite guests from Slack's mobile apps.

  2. Tap Invite members.
  3. Enter email addresses, or tap Contacts to invite people stored on your device.
  4. Tap Send to finish.

Share an invite link

Workspace Owners and Admins can create a link that anyone can use to join their workspace.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Invite people from the menu, then click Members.
  3. Click  Get an invite link to share.
  4. Choose an expiration date from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click Create Invite Link.
  6. Click Copy, then share the link with anyone you want to join your workspace.

Note: Invite links can be used by up to 2,000 people. You'll need to create a new link if you reach this limit.

Allow email signup

Workspace Owners can enable email signup. This allows people with an email address from a specific domain (e.g., your company's domain) to join your workspace without an invitation. Before someone can join a workspace this way, we'll send a validation link to their email address to verify their identity.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings.
  3. Next to Workspace Signup Mode, click Expand.
  4. Choose Any email address from these domains.
  5. Enter your domain(s), then click Save.

Tip: Workspace Owners can learn more about managing a workspace's signup mode here.

Manage pending invitations

Workspace Owners and Admins can view pending and accepted invitations and make either of the following changes:

  • Revoke Invitation
Revoke an invitation to prevent the recipient from using it
  • Resend Invitation
Send a new email invitation if the original has expired or been lost
  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Invite people from the menu.
  3. Click See pending and accepted invites for your workspace.
  4. On the Pending Invitations tab, click the  right arrow icon next to the invite you want to view.
  5. Click Revoke InvitationResend Invitation, or click the  down arrow icon to exit.

Invitation limits

You can send as many invitations to your workspace as you'd like, but here are some things to keep in mind:

  • If you've already sent several invites, but few have been accepted, Slack may temporarily limit your ability to send more.
  • Should this happen, all pending invitations will still be valid. Please note that revoking pending invites will not lift an invitation limit.

To avoid hitting an invite limit, only invite people who either ask to join or who you'd like to become a member of your workspace. If you have questions about this limit, let us know.
