  2. Choose Preferences
  3. Click the Notifications tab.
  4. Under Notify me about..., decide which notifications you’d like to receive.Screen_Shot_2017-05-23_at_12.55.23_PM__1_.png

All new messages

  • You’ll be notified for every new message in Slack.
  • We recommend this option only for smaller teams.

Direct messages, mentions, & keywords

  • You’ll be notified when you receive a direct message or when a teammate mentions you or uses any of your keywords.
  • This is the most popular notification preference.

Nothing

  • You won’t receive any desktop notifications from Slack.
  • You will see a 1 badge icon when a teammate mentions you, sends you a direct message, or uses one of your keywords.

Note: Your desktop notification preferences will also apply to your mobile app by default. To set different preferences, check the box next to Use different settings for my mobile devices.

Change your notification sound or appearance

Access your notification preferences

You can choose what your notifications look and sound like — you simply need to access your notification preferences. Here's how:

  1. Click your team name to open the Team Menu.
  2. Choose Preferences.
  3. Click Notifications

Adjust your notification sound

To set or adjust your notification sound, scroll down to Sound & appearance.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • If you’d like audible notifications, make sure to check the box next to Play a sound when receiving a notification.
  • To change the sound, click Change and choose any option from the list to hear a preview. The sound you pick will apply to all of your desktop notifications.
  • To turn off notification sounds, check Mute all sounds from Slack.

Note: If using Windows 10 and notification sounds stop working, check your Windows Quiet Hours setting — if enabled, notification sounds for active apps are suppressed, including Slack.

Adjust your notification appearance

When it comes to how your notifications are displayed, you have a few options. You can check or uncheck as many as you please!Screen_Shot_2017-05-23_at_1.39.41_PM__1_.png
