Archive a channel

Archiving a channel removes it from the list of active conversations on your Slack team. The channel isn’t open for new activity, but the history is retained for easy browsing and searching.

When a channel is archived, here's what you can expect:

  • The channel name will have the  archive icon next to it
  • All members can still browse the conversation history at my.slack.com/archives/archived
  • Messages from the archived channel will still appear in search results

Note: You can delete public channels (except for the #general channel), if you'd prefer.

To archive a channel:

Desktop

iOS

Android

  2. Select Additional options.
