Export your workspace data

Slack offers two options to export data from a workspace: Standard Export and Corporate Export.

  • Standard Export
    On any plan, Workspace Owners and Admins can use Standard Export to export public channel content from their workspace: messages and links to files included.
  • Corporate Export 
    On the Plus plan, Workspace Owners can apply to access to a self-service tool called Corporate Export. This type of export includes content from public and private channels and direct messages.

 Use Standard Export for public data

Standard Export is available to Workspace Owners and Admins on any Slack plan. This tool will export all public channel content from a workspace.

    1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
    2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
    3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
    4. Select the Export tab.
    5. Click Start Export. We'll send you an email once it's ready.
    6. Open the email and click Visit your workspace's export page.
    7. Click Ready for download to access the .zip file.


The .zip file will contain your message history (in JSON format) and file links from all public channels.

Note: This export includes all data from public channels — you can't be selective. If you're importing your data into another workspace, you'll have the option to pick the messages and files you'd like to migrate.


Use Corporate Export

On the Plus plan, Workspace Owners can apply to access Corporate Export. This self-service tool allows Workspace Owners to export content from public and private channels and direct messages as needed and permitted by law

Apply for Corporate Export

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
  4. Select Apply Here.

Note: If approved and and you enable Corporate Export, the option to export only public channel data won't be available. 

Schedule recurring Corporate Exports

If your application to use Corporate Export has been approved, you can schedule this export to occur daily, weekly, or monthly. 

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
  4. Select Schedule Exports and choose a frequency.
Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners and Admins on any plan can use Standard Export.
    Only Workspace Owners on the Plus plan can apply for Corporate Export.
