Export your workspace data

Workspace Owners and Admins can export data from their workspace. Your export option depends on your Slack plan: 

  • Free, Standard, Plus, and Enterprise Grid plans
    On any plan, Workspace Owners and Admins can export and download all public channel data: messages and links to files included.
  • Plus plan
    Workspace Owners can request access to a self-service export tool to download all data from their workspace. This includes content from public and private channels and direct messages.


 Export data from public channels

    1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
    2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
    3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
    4. Select the Export tab.
    5. Click Start Export. We'll send you an email once it's ready.
    6. Open the email and click Visit your workspace's export page.
    7. Click Ready for download to access the .zip file.


The .zip file will contain your message history (in JSON format) and file links from all public channels.

Note: This export includes all data from public channels — you can't be selective. If you're importing your data into another workspace, you'll have the option to pick the messages and files you'd like to migrate.


Apply to download all workspace data

Workspaces Owners on the Plus plan can request to export all workspace data. Here's how:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
  4. Select Apply Here.

Note: If your application is approved and you've enabled this feature, the option to export only public channel data won't be available. 


Schedule ongoing exports

Workspace owners on the Plus or Enterprise Grid plan can schedule exports to occur daily, weekly, or monthly:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Choose Import/Export Data in the top right.
  4. Select Schedule Exports and choose a frequency.
Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners and Admins can access this feature. 
  • Available for all plans.
