To begin, click Start Export. Your export will begin processing, and you'll receive an email once it's ready.
When the email arrives, click Visit your workspace's export page.
Click Ready for download to begin downloading a .zip file.
The .zip file will contain your message history (in JSON format) and links to uploaded files.
Exports include all messages and files from public channels — you can't be selective. However, if you intend to import the data into another Slack workspace, you can select messages and files to import during the import process. See Importing message history for details.
You can delete an export file at any time by clicking the button next to the download link.
Apply for Compliance Exports
Compliance Exports are available on the Plus plan. To apply for Compliance Exports, one of your Owners can visit the Export Data page and click apply here.
Once Compliance Exports have been approved and turned on, the option to run Standard exports will not be available.
Note: Compliance Exports do not include messages from private channels and direct messages sent before a Workspace Owner turned on the feature.
Schedule ongoing exports
Workspaces on the Plus plan can schedule Standard or Compliance Exports to occur daily, weekly, or monthly. Scheduled Compliance Exports include all history since they were enabled.
To schedule exports, visit the Export Data page and select a frequency under Schedule Exports.
Who can use this feature?
Workspace Owners and Admins can access this feature.
Available on free and paid plans.
