Reset or change password while signed in (desktop only)

Note: You can't reset your password from a mobile device.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.

  2. Select Profile & account from the menu. This will open your profile on the right side of your screen.
  3. Under your name, click the  More actions icon, then Account settings to open your settings on the web.
  4. Click expand next to Password. If you don't have this option, your company requires single sign-on to sign in to Slack.
  5. Next, reset or change your password:

If you’ve forgotten your current password, click Reset your password by email, and we’ll send you an email with a link to reset your password.

If you know your current password, enter your Current password, then a New Password. Click Save Password to finish.

Troubleshooting

No option to reset your password

If you followed the steps above but don't have the Password section in Account settings, your workspace has single sign-on enabled. Instead of entering a Slack password, your company requires you to sign in to Slack using an identity provider like Okta, OneLogin, or G Suite.

Not receiving a password reset email

Followed the steps above, but have yet to receive a password reset email? Please check all tabs, folders, and spam filters in your inbox. Still not there? Drop us a line.

Lost access to the email address on your account

For security purposes, you must be able to access the email address associated with your Slack account to reset your password. If that's not possible, please contact your Workspace Administrator to update the email address associated with your account. Note that administrators can't reset or change passwords.

Slack can’t find an account registered with your email

If you see a message telling you we can't find an account registered with your email address, it usually means one of two things:

  • There's a mistake in your email address. It could be a typo or the wrong email address. Double-check that it's the same email you used to sign up to your Slack workspace.
  • You may be trying to sign in to a different Slack workspace. You can find the right Slack URL at slack.com/get-started#find.
