Create a channel

Channels are the best way to keep conversations about various projects, topics, or teams organized in Slack. There’s no limit to how many unique channels you can have in Slack — go ahead, create as many as you’d like!

Create a channel

Follow the steps below to create a new channel.

  1. Click the plus button in the sidebar.
  2. Select Create a channel. If you're on Enterprise Grid, select a workspace from the dropdown menu.
  3. Give the channel a name, then click Next.
  4. Choose a channel type (public or private), then click Create.
  1. Tap the  Home tab at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Below Channels in your left sidebar, tap  Add channel.
  3. Choose Create Channel
  4. Enter a channel name.
  5. Add a description, choose a channel type (public or private), or tap the box to share the channel outside of your company.
  6. Tap Create in the top-right corner to finish.
  1. Tap the  Home tab at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Below Channels in your left sidebar, tap  Add channel.
  3. Tap the  plus icon in the bottom-right corner.
  4. Enter a channel name.
  5. Add a description, choose a channel type (public or private), or tap the box to share the channel outside of your company.
  6. Tap Create in the top-right corner to finish.

Note: By default, members can create channels and Multi-Channel Guests can create private channels (but Workspace Owners can change these permissions). If you can't create a channel, find a Workspace Owner to ask for help.
