Important messages and their replies can be pinned to the details pane in any channel or direct message, including group messages, for easy reference.
How pinning works
Pin a message to store it in a conversation's details pane.
Pin files by pinning the original message the file was shared in.
Click the pin icon to view all pinned items in a channel or direct message.
Pin an item
You can pin messages and files by pinning the original message posted in the channel or direct message:

Hover over the message or original file message you'd like to pin.
Click the More actions icon.
Select Pin to #channel-name (or to this conversation).
Click Yes, pin this message or file to confirm.
A message will appear in the channel or DM letting others know you’ve pinned an item. Your pinned item will be shown in the details pane, which you can open by clicking the pin icon.
Tap on the message or shared file you'd like to pin.
Tap the More actions icon.
Select Pin Message.

Touch and hold on a message or file.
Tap Pin to conversation.
A message will appear in the channel or DM letting others know you’ve pinned an item.
Note: A maximum of 100 messages or files can be pinned to any one channel or direct message at a time.
View pinned items

Click the pin icon in the channel header or click Pinned Items in the channel detail pane. The number beside the iconlets you know how many items you'll find pinned in the details pane at a glance.
Tap the channel name in the header to view the channel details.
Tap Pinned.

Items will be listed under the Pinned items section.
Tip: You can also search for items pinned to public channels and your own direct messages by using the has:pin modifier in the search bar.
Remove a pinned item

Click the pin icon to view pinned items.
In the details pane, hover over an item and click the closebutton icon to remove it.
Click Yes, remove this pinned item to confirm.
Tap the channel name on the header to view the channel details.
Tap Pinned.
Tap the close button icon to the right of the pinned item.
Tap Remove to confirm.
Tap the channel name on the header to view the channel details.
Scroll down to Pinned items.
Long press on the item you'd like to remove.
Tap Remove to confirm.
Note: If you remove an item another person pinned, they’ll receive a Slackbot message letting them know.
