Send emails to Slack
Send emails directly to Slack to keep your most important information in one central location. 📬
There are two ways to send emails to Slack: by activating a forwarding email address or by connecting the Email app to your workspace.
Set up a forwarding email address
Get an email address to forward emails to yourself in Slack. These emails will be delivered to you by Slackbot. Here's how to set this up from your desktop:
your workspace name in the top left to open the menu. Click
Choose , then Preferences Messages & Media .
Scroll down to click Get a Forwarding Address. Click Copy to save it to your clipboard.
Paste the Slack-generated address as a new forwarding address in your email application.
And you're done! Any emails you send to that address will be uploaded into Slack.
You can disable your forwarding email address from your desktop:
Click your workspace name in the top left to open the menu.
Choose Preferences .
Select Messages & Media .
Click Disable this address .
💌✨ Forwarding emails to yourself in Slack is a great way to store details alongside your other private notes and files.
Tip: Learn how to share emails in channels or with other members of your workspace.
Connect the Email app to your workspace
If your workspace is on a paid plan, you can connect the Email app and post emails to any channel or DM. Emails sent to Slack work the same as other messages posted in Slack: they are indexed and searchable by anyone who is part of the conversation. You can set this up from your desktop:
Visit Slack’s App Directory, then search for the Email app.
Click Install, or Add Configuration if it's already on your workspace.
Choose a channel or DM where the email will be posted.
Click Add Email Integration .
Copy the Email Address . Emails sent to this address will post in the channel or DM of your choice.
Review the app's settings and customize the label, name, and icon.
Click Save Integration.
That’s it! You’ll receive an email from Slack with your special email address. Add it to your address book for easy reference!
Visit Slack’s App Directory at https://my.slack.com/apps .
Click Manage , then click Apps.
Click Email , then click the pencil icon to edit the configuration.
Click Disable or Remove in the top right. Click
OK. Emails will stop being delivered to Slack immediately.
💌✨ Connecting an email app to a channel in your workspace is a great way to skip the inbox and instantly receive important notifications like server status updates, mailing lists, and reports.
Note: Emails sent from mailing lists that do not specify a sender will not arrive in Slack.
Who can use this feature?
All members except for Guests can use this feature. Forwarding address is available on
all plans. Email app is available only on the Standard or Plus plans.
