Create custom emoji

Crestfallen by the lack of a certain emoji? Fret no more: Whatever your emoji needs, your team can make it happen with custom emoji.

Here’s how:

  1. Click your team name to open the Team Menu.
  2. Select Customize Slack. This will open your team site.
  3. Click the Emoji tab.
  4. Choose a name for your new custom emoji.
  5. Click the Choose File button to select the file you wish to use.
  6. When you're done, click Save New Emoji. A confirmation message will appear, and you can upload your next emoji if you wish.
  7. You can also review or delete uploaded custom emoji, or set an alias for an existing emoji from the Customize page. 

Images can be JPG, GIF, or PNG, up to 128 pixels in width and height, and a maximum 64KB file size. We recommend using a small, square picture, as Slack will resize the image to fit neatly inside a row of text.

Note: Some teams may choose to restrict custom emoji uploads to Team Owners or Admins. If you’re unable to upload custom emoji, contact your Team Owner for help!

Who can use this feature?
  • By default, all members except for Guests can use this feature.
  • Available to teams on free and paid plans.
