Slack for Android

On the move? You can still communicate with your team. Slack for Android is the best way to use Slack on an Android device. You can access all your channels and direct messages, and receive push notifications for essential messages.

 

Download the Slack app

  1. Find Slack in the Google Play store.
  2. Tap the Install button. Check the permissions that appear, and, if you’re happy, tap Accept.

 

Tips and tricks

Invite contacts to your Slack team

If you’re a Team Owner or Admin, you can easily send Slack team invitations to your contacts. From the channel list, tap the menu button at top right, then tap Invite members to get started.

Take a photo or upload a file

Photo op? Tap the plus button (+) in the message box to take a photo you can share right away. You can easily upload any file from this same menu.

Long press to find more actions

You can long-press a message to add a reaction, mark it as unread, and more. Long-press on your own messages to edit or delete them.

Direct messages, mentions and starred items

Need to glance at your starred items? Open the drawer and tap ▼ in top-left to see them. To view recent activity, tap the   three vertical dots in the top right.  

 

Troubleshooting

Having trouble? Here's what to try first:

  • Make sure you’re running the latest version of the app: slack.com/downloads.
  • Restart the app.
  • Reset local storage: From the overflow menu at top right, tap Settings, then Advanced.

If push notifications don’t arrive

  • If you think you’re not getting push notifications when you should, try closing the app, removing it from the recent active list, then restarting the app.
