Direct messages and group DMs

Direct messages (DMs) are private, ad hoc conversations between two or more team members. DMs are best for quick discussions, like discussing the week’s new hires, or making lunch plans.

You can DM just one person, or start a group message with up to 8 other people (9 total, including you!). These conversations are visible and searchable only to you and the team members you DM.

Add more team members to a group message

Desktop

Mobile

  1. From the group DM, click the   channel details icon  at the top of the message.
  2. In the Members list, click Add someone.
  1. From the group DM, tap the list of names at the top of the message.
  2. Tap Add Someone.

Because DMs are private, adding more people will start a new conversation without the previous message history. To maintain message history when new members are added, try moving the group DM to a private channel instead.
