Workspace Owners and Admins can delete any public channel, except for the #general channel — it'll always be a built-in part of your workspace. Deleting a public channel will remove it and all its contents from your workspace's archives.
Private channels: They can't be deleted, but they can be archived which will remove them from the list of active conversations in your Slack workspace.
Delete a public channel
An active public channel will be listed in your left sidebar with a # hashtag icon next to it's name. Here's how to delete one:
From your desktop, open the channel and click the gear icon to open the Channel Settings menu.
Select Additional options.
Click Delete this channel.
To confirm, click Yes, delete this channel.
Warning: Once a channel has been deleted, it can't be restored. Proceed with care.
Tip: Don't see the option to delete a channel? You'll need to ask a Workspace Owner or Admin for help — members can't delete channels from their workspace.
Delete an archived channel
An archived channel is no longer open for new activity, but it's history is retained for easy browsing and searching. Archived channels will have an archived icon next to their name.
Here's how to delete one:
From your desktop, click the CHANNELS header at the top of your channel list.
Click Show: All channels and select Archived channels from the dropdown menu.
Select the channel you'd like to delete.
Click the gear icon, then select Delete.
Files will not be deleted
Deleting a channel will not delete the files that were shared in that channel, nor will it change the visibility of those files. Members of your workspace will still be able to see, access, and re-share files from deleted channels.
