Customize call settings for your workspace or organization

By default, the  phone icon is available for all members to make Slack Calls on your workspace or Enterprise Grid organization. There are a few ways to customize the voice and video call settings:

  • Show the phone icon to operate Slack Calls for everyone.
  • Hide the phone icon to turn off Slack Calls for everyone.
  • Set the phone icon to operate a different third-party calling app.

Keep in mind: Any Owner or Admin can manage workspace call settings and any changes will impact all members. Members cannot customize their call settings individually.

 

Manage the phone icon

Free, Standard, and Plus plans

Enterprise Grid plan

Here's how Workspace Owners and Admins can manage the phone icon:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left. 
  2. Select Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Next to Calls, click Expand.
  4. Check or uncheck the box to next Enable calling in Slack.
  5. Click Save.

Workspace level

Here's how Workspace Owners and Admins can manage the phone icon:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left. 
  2. Select Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Next to Calls, click Expand.
  4. Check or uncheck the box to next Enable calling in Slack.
  5. Click Save.

Organization level

Here's how Org Owners and Admins can manage the phone icon for all workspaces connected to your Enterprise Grid organization:

  1. From your desktop, sign in to your Slack Enterprise Grid, then click Manage Organization.
  2. Under   Settings, click Organization Info.
  3. Scroll to Calls.
  4. Check or uncheck the box to next Enable calling in Slack.
  5. Click Save Changes.

Change the default calling app

Workspace Owners and Admins can default their workspace's  phone icon to use Slack Calls or a supported calling app.

Step 1: Select and install a calling app

  1. From your desktop, visit Slack's App Directory and choose a calling app.
  2. Install the app to your workspace.

Step 2: Set the app as your workspace's default

Keep in mind that changing this setting will update the default calling app for all members of your workspace.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left. 
  2. Select Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Next to Calls, click Expand.
  4. Make sure the box next to Enable calling in Slack is checked.
  5. Select your preferred app. If it isn't listed, make sure it's installed for your workspace (see Step 1 above).
  6. Click Save.

Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners/Admins and Org Owners/Admins can use this feature.
  • Available on the free and paid plans.
