Delete shared files

You can delete shared files that are no longer relevant to the work you're doing. If you're hitting a file storage limit, read more about message and storage limits on the Free plan.  

Note: We're afraid it's not possible to bulk delete files. We know that your business data is important to you — that's why we offer API methods to help you manage them.

  1. Visit the Files page at my.slack.com/files.
  2. Choose a file to delete — you can only delete one file at a time. 
  3. On the next page, click the  Actions icon at the top right.
  4. Select Delete file.
  5. To confirm, click Yes, delete this file.

From the Files page, you can sort by All Files shared in public channels or view My Files to see all the files you’ve uploaded in Slack. 

To help you find the file you want to delete, try sorting by a specific member or file type.

  1. Choose the file you’d like to delete.
  2. Tap the   More actions icon.
  3. Tap Delete File.
  4. Tap Yes, Delete File to confirm.

  2. Tap the   Overflow menu in the top right.
  3. Tap Delete.
  4. Tap Delete again to confirm.
  1. From a channel, locate the message with the file you'd like to delete. 
  2. Long press on the message. 
  3. Tap Delete

Note: On paid plans, Workspace Owners and Admins may have selected custom message and file retention policies, which would automatically delete messages and files after a certain period of time.

Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners and Admins can delete any file shared in a public channel. Members and Guests can only delete their own files.  
  • Available on free and paid plans.
