Reactivate a member's account

Need to reactivate a member's account? You're in the right place. Use the steps below to restore a deactivated member's access to a workspace or organization.


Reactivate an account

Free, Standard, and Plus plans

Enterprise Grid plan

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Manage members.
  3. On the right, next to the search bar, click Filters.
  4. Click the Show deactivated accounts option.
  5. Click the  three dots icon next to the account you want to reactivate.
  6. Click Activate account.


Once reactivated, the member can immediately sign in to the workspace. They'll have access to any messages sent in channels and direct messages prior to their account being deactivated.

Members who still have an active account within an org can be reinstated to a workspace by a Workspace Owner or Admin. If a member was deactivated at the org level, they'll need to be reactivated at the org level by an Org Owner or Admin before they can rejoin a workspace.

Workspace level

Workspace Owners and Admins can reinstate members who've been removed from their workspace, as long as their accounts are still active within the org. Here's how:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Manage members.
  3. Next to the search bar on the right, click Filters, then choose Members removed from the workspace.
  4. Click the  three dots icon next to the account you want to reactivate.
  5. Click Add to workspace.


Once reactivated, the member can immediately sign in to the workspace. They'll have access to any messages sent in channels and direct messages prior to their account being deactivated.


Org level

Org Owners and Admins can reactivate any members who have been deactivated at the org level: 

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Manage organization.
  3. Choose Members under Organization.
  4. Select View Deactivated Members in the top right.
  5. Click the  three dots icon next to the account you want to reactivate.
  6. Click Reactivate.


Once reactivated, the member can discover and join workspaces in the organization. Org Owners can also add the member to workspaces, either manually or through an identity provider. 

Who can use this feature?
  • Only Org Owners/Admins or Workspace Owners/Admins can use this feature.
  • Available on free and paid plans.
